UNEX Snina Dispatches the First Cranes

UNEX Snina, a subsidiary of the UNEX machinery-metallurgical complex, is currently dispatching the first cranes made in the complex of the former Vihorlat Company. From Snina in Eastern Slovakia, parts of seaport cranes are sent to Holland, made for the Kalmar Company, and the components of the overhead crane designed for the Konecranes Company go to Magdeburg in Germany. The overall price of the jobs exceeded 50 million Czech Crowns.

"After months of preparations, UNEX commenced the production in the complex of the former Vihorlat machinery works last October," says Jitka Hübnerova, manager of the UNEX Heavy Engineering Division. "The representatives of both customers are satisfied with the quality of the products, the production premises, and the expertise of the employees, and interest in long-term cooperation can be expected from both companies."

Unex invested CZK 38 million into the commissioning of the production equipment, and repairs of roofs and buildings. Further CZK 10 million went into the purchase of the welding aggregates, into the extraction equipment, and into the equipment for the performance of surface finishes and quality metering. This year, works have already commenced on other investment actions needed in order to ensure further development of the production capacities amounting to CZK 72 million. These are the expansion of the production capacities of division and preparation of material (oxygen and plasma burning machines), the expansion of the capacities of machining with a CNC horizontal borer, the introduction of robotised welding for the production of the outriggers of ground machines, but especially the construction of the storage hall and the blasting and painting workplaces. The overall investment into the reintroduction of production will exceed CZK 120 million this year. Currently, 325 employees work in Snina. Unex Snina plans sales amounting to CZK 800 million this year. The consolidated sales of the UNEX Group for 2008 will exceed CZK 5 billion.
