UNEX Group’s foundries beat all records, despite the recession

Uničov, 21 June 2010

The UNEX engineering and metallurgical company’s investment strategy and concentration on the growing markets resulted in the record-breaking performance achieved by its foundries. The Group’s considerable investment of more than 350 million in its metallurgical plants over the last five years has been crowned with success.

The new facilities and increased production capacity have aroused the customer’s interest. At present, the UNEX Group’s foundries, i.e., the Uničov and Moravské železárny plants, have achieved all-time high production volumes.

At the Moravské železárny plant, the long-time manufacture of simple fittings was replaced with the production of precision castings not only for the automotive industry, but also for compressors and air-conditioning appliances. That is, the loss-making production of 500 tons per month gave way to the monthly amount of 1000 tons of precision castings, in particular, for the transportation industry.

The Uničov foundry has specialised in the production of large castings for mining machinery, heavy trucks (dumpers), rolling-mill stands, presses, and other machines for heavy industry. The growing production of castings for heavy machinery used in copper mines is connected, for example, with electrification projects in India and China.

These strategic power-engineering projects are the key factor in the increase of the number of orders in the Group’s engineering plants as well. As an example, we can mention the long-term, growing cooperation with the power-engineering division of the SIEMENS company. This project involves the production of 800MW ACDC transformers for the power distribution networks being built in the Far East in particular. Another example is a new, year-long order for six travel units for damping machines that will be used in mines in New South Wales, Australia.

The UNEX Group’s customers include, among others, Siemens, GE, Komatsu, Mercedes, VAI, Thyssen Krupp, and TVAG.
