UNEX starts serial production for Siemens
Uničov, 12 December 2005
The metallurgical and engineering complex UNEX a.s. has deepened its cooperation with the biggest worlds producer of steam turbines - Siemens Power Generation. The first contact of the two companies was established in 2003 within the VISA project, focused on building a new supplier chain. Unex beat more than eighty competitors from all over the world.
In 2004 the pilot operation of first diffusers of steam turbines was launched, when Unex supplied twenty units of the product as a testing series. Apart from the production of diffusers, the pilot operation of turbine bodies finished with success as well. In 2006 we intend to start the serial production of turbine components, weighing over 60t. Thus Unex, after fulfilling a lot of strict criteria successfully, is becoming a supplier of turbine components of leading atomic power stations all over the world. Our prestigious deliveries include South Texas, the biggest atomic power station in the U.S.A., Sendai in Japan or Olkiluoto - the biggest atomic power station in the world which is being built in Finland.
"After our eight-year successful cooperation with General Electric – the world leader in gas turbines, the cooperation with Siemens - the biggest player on the world market of steam turbines, is important both with its volume and with the distribution of risks. Since the production for Siemens is to be long-term and the energy industry belongs to industries developing most rapidly, the portfolio of Unex products will be balanced significantly and simultaneously the impacts of seasonal fluctuations in other lines will be reduced," says General Manager of Unex.
