UNEX is increasing its machining capacity
Uničov, 27 June 2005
As a response to the growing volume of production, the metallurgical and engineering complex UNEX a.s. put into operation a horizontal milling machine of type FÚ 150 V/9, made by TOS Kuřim. The new milling machine is equipped with one of the best numerically controlled control systems - Heidenhain TNC 530i, it is designed for precision machining of medium-sized weldments by milling and drilling, predominantly of components maximum 8m long and weighing up to 5t.
"We needed to enhance the capacity of precision and productive milling in the production of cast and welded components for earth and transport machines, which belong to the basics of our production", said General Manager of Unex. „We located the machine in the part of the production hall that is determined for milling of welded components. We are going to install another two machines that will solve other bottlenecks in the production of castings and large weldments in the near future."
The milling machine FÚ 150 V/9 has a modern design, it enables the feed of milled products up to 9,000mm horizontally, 2,500mm vertically and the spindle extension up to 1,500mm. For setting and anchoring the machine, we had to build a base with the volume of 180 m3. The machine as well as its control system is difficult to operate and demand the operator's knowledge not only of the machining technology but also of the machining system programming.
"The investment in the new milling machine reached 14 million Czech Crowns. It is neither the first not the last investment in the production of UNEX. If we wish to increase the production continually and be competitive on the world markets in the long term at the same time, we cannot avoid similar costs", emphasized General Manager of Unex, and he adds: "Based on out current projects, in addition to the new milling machine another two machining tools for 20 million Czech Crowns are awaiting the installation. In the several past years the company have invested almost half a billion Czech Crowns in technical development!"
