Unex a.s. continues modernising its foundries with the test operation of new technology in the Moravské železárny foundry in Olomouc
Olomouc, 14 September 2011
On Monday, July 25, two new automatic casting devices for the provision of automatic casting of ductile cast iron and grey cast iron were put into test operation in Moravské železárny. At the same time the test operation of the equipment for the preparation of sand mixtures was started, including the installation of an effective filter unit for the provision of dusting-off the sand mixture transport routes. The total costs needed for the general investment of UNEX a.s. exceeded CZK 50 million.
The purpose of the investment was to provide the leap change in the technological standard of the entire foundry that will ensure the higher competitiveness of the foundry’s products in the market. The commissioning of the new technology provides an increase in labour productivity, improvement of working conditions, increase of production volume, and provision of a higher quality level of
the supplied products.
The casting equipment, manufactured and supplied by the Progelta company of Italy on the basis of the materials provided by the technicians and engineers of Moravské železárny, is equipped with a globally unique solution for the automatic two-plug casting system. This solution enables control of the movement of the two stopper mechanisms automatically and independently of each other. The continuous supply of liquid lead to both furnaces will be provided by the automatic transport of metal from the holding furnace, which will have been implemented by the end of this year. The steel structures of the two installed casting devices were manufactured in the engineering plants of UNEX a.s. Uničov.
The modernisation of the sand management node was supplied by the Technical company of Poland. The technological node consists of the hydrofluid sand cooler, two turbine mixers providing the required mix of sand mixture, automatic control of the sand mixture transport routes including the comprehensive solution of their exhaust and filtering. This technological equipment complex is also equipped with an automatic laboratory module, which provides the control of the optimum technical parameters of the sand mixture so as to ensure higher and stable quality parameters of the foundry’s products.
The implementation of the general investment project took two weeks, instead of the six weeks originally required by the suppliers, and it was done in partnership with nine supplier subjects from five countries in narrow cooperation with the client and the
employees of Moravské železárny.
This project will give the Moravské železárny foundry a completely different position in today’s demanding market. It will enable meeting the ever increasing customer requirements for quality, volume and delivery periods. This not only applies to the present portfolio of customers. The new technology will enable entry into the more demanding quality products market, which the foundry was not able to fulfil before the implementation of this investment.
