             Division Prakovce

The onset of the metallurgy and foundry industry in Prakovce dates well back to 1760 when iron bars and rods for manufacturing wire were produced. In 1907, the proprietary rights were transferred to the joint-stock company of Rudolf Schmidt and Co. from Vienna, and the company's forging shop and foundry were enlarged. In 1936, the company became part of POLDI Kladno and development commenced of a new hardening shop, steel mill, forging shop, and welding shop. Ten years later, the company was nationalised and managed by the state as part of the national enterprise (n. e.) of Spojené ocelárny Kladno; later on it became the branch of ČKD Kriváň, n. e. in Bratislava. In addition to steel production, the production programme later included tools, grippers, oil furnaces, frame saws, AJAX spring machine hammers, files, fittings and fixtures, valves, and gearboxes.

From 1956 - 1960, the existing production programme was significantly modified and aimed at more precise and sophisticated products: turntables, machine tools, grinders, polishing machines, caterpillar belts, shaping machines. At that time, the plant exported its products to 34 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. In 1980, the plant was affiliated with and became part of Závody ťažkého strojárstva, n.e. Košice (ZŤS Košice).

PRAKOVSKÁ OCELIARSKA SPOLOČNOSŤ, s. r. o. (P.O.S., s. r. o.) came into existence in late 1994 through privatization of the former state enterprise ZŤS Košice. The company was managed by its managers until early 2008, when a critical situation resulted in the loss of the majority of the company's key assets. 

In the same year, an acquisition of all foundry key assets belonging to the former Prakovská oceliarská spoločnosť was made by the UNEX group. Production here is accomplished by UNEX Slovakia, a.s., which is a 100% subsidiary company of UNEX.  

So the UNEX group is able to offer a complete assortment of castings of any cast iron and size.
